Swindon's sluggish start to the New Year continued as they found themselves outplayed and outclassed in a 2-1 loss to promotion chasing Huddersfield.

Danny Wilson made a couple of changes to the side that drew against Stockport, with Billy Paynter, Michael Pook and Kevin Amankwaah all coming into the starting eleven.

However, it was the hosts who had the better of the first-half and Town were lucky to go into the break with the scores level.

The second-half was to prove a different matter as Huddersfield grabbed the lead after 52 minutes when Michael Collins slotted home from the edge of the area.

The Terriers doubled there lead minutes later when defender Andy Butler headed home after Town had failed to clear a Gary Roberts' corner.

Swindon's dismal afternoon got even worse as Pat Kanyka was given his marching orders - the big defender was the last man when he tugged back Jim Goodwin who was clear on goal.

Substitute Blair Sturrock went closest to getting his team back in the game, but he saw his effort come back off the post.

Simon Cox did grab Town a late consolation as he stuck a 30-yard screamer to take his tally for the season to 17.

The result leaves Swindon just two points above the drop-zone and in desperate need of a morale-boosting victory.
